Unplugged by P.D. Quaver

Publisher Description:
What would happen if some modern kids were forced to live without their modern devices?
The teens enrolled in 'The Natural Path'--a school for device-addicted kids run by the smooth but vaguely sinister Dr. Zarkov--quickly find out when the school turns out to be nothing but a front for an elaborate kidnapping plot. Trapped on a remote tropical island and facing what looks like certain death, they will have to band together if they hope to defeat their ruthless captors. But it will still take all their ingenuity just to survive.  A realistically detailed and thrilling story by novelist P.D. Quaver which will appeal to young adults (13 and over).

Review:
Out of the recent Young-Adult books I've read recently, Unplugged has been my favorite. When I looked at the cover, I expected something similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The moment I started reading though, I realized that this was far darker and it kept making me want to read more.

The development for the characters were well done and not over-exaggerated. Each kid breaks the cookie-cutter mold and makes it feel like you could have met someone like that in real life. While they’re facing their ordeals, you can see the subtle development each character goes through, and it feels plausible for their age. Even though they’re rich, spoiled, and geniuses, they’re still children and they’re developed with that in mind.

The villains in this book made my skin crawl every time they appeared; something that many books have a hard time accomplishing. They’re not over-the-top with their schemes and motives. In fact, during the beginning, they were hardly shown. When they did appear, you can feel the desperation, anger, and fear the kids have towards them and, in turn, that’s how I felt about them as well.

For 99 cents, you’re getting an amazing story. You’ll see yourself spending the night reading, hoping that the kids make it out. P.D. Quaver has a gift with storytelling, and I’ll be looking for more of his upcoming books in the near future.  Unplugged by P.D. Quaver is
